PI DAY

14 03 2008

Happy Pi Day!  Pi day  (3-14) is today!  I heard on NPR this morning that two teenagers, as a Pi day joke, went up to an elderly lady, asked if she knew about P-I,  then slapped a P-I-E in her face.

Don’t Die Here!

7 03 2008

From NPR’s “Morning Edition” this morning: A small town ran out of space in their cemetery. The mayor, in an effort to resolve the problem, passed an order saying that if anyone did not have a plot of land in the cemetery, they were forbidden from dying in the town!

Spring Break

6 03 2008

Spring break is coming soon. I cannot wait. Too many days of a fixed schedule, quizzes, projects, and tests can get tiring. That’s what I thought last year, though, and I ran into a pole playing kickball. Just thinking of that makes me miss recess! Post something to tell me what you’re are doing for spring break.

People, Places, And Things

4 03 2008

People, Places, and Things is a section of Road and Track that contains some interesting, car related news stories.  I will try to do a monthly post on the sections.  Here is the first:

  1. The Durham Regional Police Service in Canada sent out nearly 900 christmas cards to citizens who have lost their driving privelidges saying “During this festive season, we remind you that you are currently disqualified, prohibited, or suspended from operating a motor vehicle.”  I sure would like to get that for a christmas present!
  2. A truck driver in Sacremento pulled over to the side of a highway when he noticed smoke coming out of the exhaust pipes of his semi truck.  He was too late.  He found that his truck had caught on fire, melting his load of cheese all over the interstate!  At least the California mice are happy!
  3. An off duty police officer in Elko, Nevada was pulled over and charged with drunk driving by……..Her husband!  The woman drove off before she could be given the Breathalyzer test; her husband pulled her over again and called for backup.  The woman is currently on paid leave.
  4. A woman driving to her new job in England noticed smoke coming from under the hood of her car.  She continued on and parked next to her boss’s Porsche 911.  Seconds later, flames shot out, ignited the fuel tank as the car went up in a huge fireball, melting the side of the Porsche, warping the frame, and burning the tires.  And she hadn’t even met the boss yet…

All stories from the January issue of Road & Track Magazine.
